I started Chikara’s board yesterday!! They styro blanks for stand up boards don’t offer much in terms of any kind of shape to start with, as polyurethane blanks do. So I copied the rocker off of a Pat Rawson 9’2″A US Blank with my rocker jig. I drew the bottom line on each side of the stryo blank and then planed the foam down to that line I drew on the sides of the blank. Now I had a GOOD bottom line to start with! Then I templates the board and cut it out. The thickness flow and decline are junk, as the original bottom line was but after I get my planer on it, the JL magic will transform it into a wicked tube riding semi gun for Chikara!! More to come as progress is made on his board.
Here are the “before” and “after” pictures showing the thickness flow of the blank before I thinned it out and cleaned up the foil. Chikara’s new board.
First shot shows the all-important first band. The first band determines how nice (or not) of a foil flow the rail will have. I’ve always liked the way Bob Pearson did his tail rocker/lift where he brings the bottom like up to the deck as opposed to bringing the deck line down to the bottom line. I hope he’ll approve of what I did on Chikara’s board here!
For Marco Pacheco: Hello Marco, here are some bottom shots. Not sure if you can see the slight “V” in the nose. That fades out to flat about 2 1/2′ back and then about 3′ back, a slight “V” with double concave starts and fades to flat “V” about 10″ from the tail.
